Authorities in Garden Grove have identified a woman who sustained serious injuries in an Orange County truck accident as 37-year-old Olga Quiroz. Quiroz was struck by an out-of-control tractor truck, which officials say was driven by a drunk driver. The Orange County Register states that the accident occurred the morning of February 12, 2010 in the 11000 block of Woodbury Road when the truck driver crashed into the woman's backyard and hit her. Quiroz was pinned under the truck's tire and sustained injuries to her leg. The truck driver, 44-year-old William Michael Davis, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

I sympathize with Quiroz and her family for what they are going through right now. My heart goes out to her 11 year-old son and 2-year-old daughter who witnessed the horrific accident. I hope and pray Quiroz recovers completely and that she has not suffered any catastrophic injuries.

Truck Driver Involved in Earlier Hit-and-Run

Officials say Davis was involved in a hit-and-run at the intersection of Euclid Street and Trask Avenue about 45 minutes before this accident. Fortunately, the woman whose vehicle was struck, was not injured. She actually followed Davis to the second accident scene and identified him as the hit-and-run driver.

DUI Car Accidents

There were four fatalities and 77 injuries involving DUI car accidents in Garden Grove, according to California Highway Patrol's 2008 traffic accident statistics. In Orange County as a whole, alcohol-related traffic accidents claimed 62 lives and injured 1,492 people in 2008.

Under California law, it is illegal for truck drivers or commercial vehicle operators to driver with a blood alcohol level of 0.04 percent or higher. That limit is 0.08 percent for drivers of non-commercial vehicles.

Claim for Compensation

Quiroz would be well advised to consult with an experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer, who will stay on top of the investigation and make sure her legal rights are protected. If this driver is found guilty of drunk driving and determined to have been at fault for causing Quiroz's serious injuries, both he and his employer could be held liable for the accident and injuries.
