A man who was fatally injured in a San Diego car accident the afternoon of January 22, 2010, has been identified by local authorities as 50-year-old David Reid. 10news reports that the accident occurred on Campo Road in Spring Valley, when 18-year-old Andrew Bellatti, the driver of a Ford Mustang, crossed into opposing lanes of traffic and struck the Dodge Caravan carrying Reid and his 17-year-old son.

Reid was pronounced dead at the scene while his son suffered major injuries. Bellatti as well as his 16-year-old female passenger also sustained severe injuries and were hospitalized. California Highway Patrol officials believe speed may be the reason why Bellatti lost control of the Mustang. Officials say the speedometer in the wrecked Mustang was stuck at 80 mph, which may have been the speed at which Bellatti was traveling at the time of the collision.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of David Reid who have indeed suffered a devastating loss. The Reid family is not only dealing with the tragic and heartbreaking death of David Reid, but also caring for a seriously injured 17-year-old. This family will certainly be in my prayers. I hope and pray that all the young, injured victims here recover quickly and completely.

San Diego Car Accidents

According to CHP's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 93 deaths and 2,460 injuries involving car accidents in the unincorporated areas of San Diego County. In San Diego County as a whole, 268 people died and 14,641 were injured as a result of car accidents in 2007.

California Speeding Law

California Vehicle Code Section 22350 (Basic Speed Law) states: “No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic and on surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property.”

If it is determined that Bellatti was traveling at a high rate of speed and was at-fault for this fatal collision, he could be held criminally and civilly liable for the accident and resulting injuries. Reid's family would be well-advised to seek the counsel of an experienced San Diego personal injury lawyer, who will keep abreast of the officials investigation and help protect their legal rights and best interests.

I hope that the injured man makes a full recovery.

I knew "dave" as a fellow Gov't employee at NMCSD Radiology. He was a jack of all trades. I will surely miss his humor and candor. I will especially miss the lunchtimes conversations and anecdotes at the Radiology table in the Galley! He would always brag about his children and their activities....Drama was a big part of his life and he was so proud when his daughter was accepted to USC . Dave loved paintball, football, politics and movies! Too many times i nearly choked on my lunch laughing with Dave! Dave I send you The Quatros Milpas Lunch for ever! All of us: Dr Silverman, Dr. Maher, Trish and especially Andy will miss you always!
I will always remember your smiling face in the midst of a stressfull day passing by my desk cheering "hey Jen!"
