A rollover accident in the Coachella Valley left three people injured the morning of June 17, 2010, The Desert Sun reports. The major injury crash occurred near Chuckwalla Valley Road on the 10 Freeway when a car swiped a large truck and rolled over. Three of the car's occupants suffered major injuries including a child. All were transported to an area hospital for treatment. California Highway Patrol officials are investigating this accident.

I sympathize with the injured victims in this case. I hope they have not sustained catastrophic injuries and pray for their quick and complete recovery.

Truck Accident Statistics

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), there were 304 deaths and 3,196 injuries involving truck accidents in the state of California in 2008. During the same year, 4,223 fatalities and 51,760 injuries were reported as a result of big rig accidents in the United States.

What Caused this Accident?

Based on this news report, it is not clear why this crash happened. We do not know who was at fault. The article does not say if one vehicle was making an unsafe pass or if one of the drivers was operating recklessly. I trust officials are looking into whether one of the drivers was impaired, distracted, fatigued or otherwise negligent at the time of this injury crash. If the truck driver is determined to have been at fault, then, the driver and his or her employer could be held liable for the accident and resulting injuries.

In such cases, it would be in the best interest of injured victims to seek the counsel of a reputed Riverside personal injury lawyer who will analyze all facets of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer will also be able to examine other issues such as defective products or dangerous roadways and determine if anyone else can be held liable for the accident and injuries caused.
