A car accident in Los Angeles proved fatal for a woman on a Northridge street the morning of June 21, 2010. The Los Angeles Daily News reports that the fatal car crash occurred at the intersection of Reseda Boulevard and Devonshire Street where the victim was stopped to make a turn. At the time, police officials say, her Infiniti SUV was rear-ended by a speeding Mercedes that was eastbound on Devonshire. The impact of the crash caused the SUV to ignite. The driver, who was the only occupant of the SUV, died at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes was critically injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment. There were no other injuries. Michael Smith, 36, was killed in a hit-and-run crash on June 6, 2010 in San Dimas, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune reports. Although investigators initially determined that this was a single-vehicle accident possibly caused by excessive speed, it has now been determined based on an anonymous tip and other physical evidence that Smith was the victim of a hit-and-run accident. Ryan Ferreira, 39, has been arrested in connection with this incident on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run. A car accident in Merced the evening of June 7, 2010 claimed the life of 69-year-old Liane Gertrud Hocking, 69, the Merced Sun-Star reports. Officials say Hocking was driving her car north on Bert Crane Road when she stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Atwater Jordan Road. When she pulled out of the intersection her car collided with a pickup truck driven by Carlos Eduardo Vieira. Hocking was taken to an area trauma center where she was pronounced dead. An elderly man who was fatally injured in a pedestrian accident in Vista has been identified by authorities as 73-year-old Richard Louis Canngiano. San Diego 6 reports that the fatal collision occurred the morning of June 9, 2010 in the 1300 block of East Vista way. Officials say both vehicles that struck Canngiano did not stop or wait for authorities to arrive. One of the vehicles is described as a dark-colored Ford Ranger pickup truck. A 45-year-old man who was killed in a DUI collision on the 680 Freeway, has been identified by officials as Adam Bajer. CBS News reports that this fatal collision also injured a 35-year-old man who was a passenger in Bajer's pickup truck. This deadly car accident occurred the morning of May 11, 2010 when a pickup truck driven by Timothy Bartelt, 53, struck the pickup truck that Bajer was driving. Bajer was thrown from his vehicle, while his passenger, said to be a relative, suffered major injuries. Bartelt was booked on suspicion of felony drunk driving. Read More

Officials have identified a 20-year-old motorcyclist killed in a truck accident in Westminster as Nicholas Joseph Knoth. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal motorcycle versus big rig collision occurred on Edwards Street near Homer Street, when Knoth lost control of the motorcycle and moved in front of the truck. He was then run over by the 18-wheeler. Westminster police suspect that Knoth may have been cut off by another vehicle causing him to lose control and ride into the path of the large truck. Officials are still investigating the cause of a Glendale car accident in which a 42-year-old Riverside woman was killed. The Daily Breeze reports that the fatal car accident occurred the night of April 12, 2010 on the 5 Freeway in Glendale. Major injuries were reported. The woman died while two others – a 35-year-old man and a 6-year-old girl – sustained severe injuries. Apparently one of the vehicles was stopped on the freeway and was struck by another vehicle.

A 48-year-old man, who was killed in a Los Angeles car accident by a fatigued driver on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, has been identified as James Stellar. The Lookout News reports that 19-year-old David Corona told officials he fell asleep while driving the evening of April 2, 2010. Stellar was attempting to make a left turn at Broad Beach Road when his vehicle was broadsided by Corona's car. Stellar's injuries were fatal.
