An 18-month-old boy is in critical condition after a swimming pool accident in West Covina the afternoon of April 12, 2011. According to a news report in The San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the near-drowning incident occurred at a home in the 1600 block of Howellhurst Drive. Officials say the boy's mother was cooking dinner when he gained access to the backyard by opening a door. The boy's older brother found the child in the pool shortly afterward and rescued him. The child was transported to a local hospital where he was without a heartbeat for 45 minutes. He remains in critical condition.
