An ABC News report states that Chanel and her friend were walking back home from a party when they were struck by a Mercury Voyager on 154th Street. The Victorville Daily Press reports that the accident occurred on the Outer Highway 18 in Apple Valley, the evening of December 20, 2009, when the girl was walking along the roadway. According to a Bay City News report, both pedestrian-car collisions occurred within minutes of each other on the morning of December 21, 2009.
