City News Service reports that the fatal bicycle accident occurred the night of August 23, 2011 at the intersection of Avalon Boulevard and Redondo Beach Boulevard in Compton. Officials say Lemus-Bautista was northbound on Avalon when he was struck by a BMW traveling west on Redondo Beach Boulevard. Lemus-Bautista, who was ejected from his bicycle, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the BMW left the scene. An investigation is ongoing.
