A street intersection car accident in Orange County on October 26, 2009 caused three people to sustain injuries. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the accident occurred at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and State College Boulevard when a Toyota Camry struck a Mercury Mountaineer. The Mountaineer rolled over from the impact. The female driver of the Mountaineer and two people in the Camry were injured.
I hope no one suffered major injuries in this crash. I also offer my best wishes to these injured victims for a quick and complete recovery. These victims will be in my prayers.
Anaheim Car Accident Statistics
California Highway Patrol reports 30 deaths and 1,006 injuries as a result of Anaheim car accidents in 2007. Countywide, 178 people died and 14,185 people sustained injuries as a result of car accidents during the same period.
Based on this news report, it is not clear which one of the vehicle was at fault for this accident. I trust investigators are looking into which vehicle had the right-of-way at the intersection. An eyewitness apparently told police that the Mountaineer may have entered the intersection on a red light, but that is yet to be confirmed. If the driver of the Mountaineer did not follow traffic rules and had run a red light, then she could be held liable for the accident and resulting injuries.
Who Caused the Accident?
Running a red light is a serious traffic violation. California Vehicle Code Section 21453 (a) states: "A driver facing a circular red signal shall stop at the limit line before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown."
In such cases, injured victims would be well-advised to seek the counsel of an experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer who will make sure the victims' rights are protected and that they get the compensation they rightfully deserve. If there was a dangerous condition on this roadway that caused or contributed to the accident, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining the roadway could be held liable. Any such claim against a California governmental agency must be filed within 180 days of the accident or injury.
