The Desert Sun reports that the incident occurred at Cook Street and St. James Place in Palm Desert the afternoon of September 26, 2011. Romaine was northbound on the roadway when another car entered his lane. As he attempted to avoid the car, the officer struck a pickup truck driven b y 41-year-old Juan M. Chavez. Anita De Guzman Torres, 62, was killed in a car accident in San Diego after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the fatal pedestrian accident occurred in a crosswalk on Eighth Street in National City. Torres was struck by a Honda sedan driven by a 25-year-old Navy sailor who was on his way to work. Torres died from her injuries. Officials are investigating the cause of this incident.

Officials arrested the driver, 22-year-old Victor Martinez on suspicion of felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. Two other female passengers were also seriously injured.

Westhaver was thrown off his motorcycle and died from his injuries. Officials said the driver of the SUV made the U-turn to avoid slowing traffic ahead and ended up hitting the oncoming motorcyclist.

An elderly man who was killed in a car accident in Los Angeles has been identified as 72-year-old Raul Quintanilla. KTLA News reports that the fatal pedestrian accident happened near the intersection of Santa Gertrudes Street and Imperial Highway in La Mirada. Police say Quintanilla was walking on the street when he was hit and dismembered by a Chevy Malibu. The driver fled the scene, but turned himself later that day and was identified as 18-year-old Geoffrey Rocha.

City News Service reports that the injury hit-and-run crash occurred at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Serrano Avenue. Officials say a sedan rear-ended the vehicle and then carried the moped rider at least 100 feet on its hood before he dropped to the ground. The driver fled the scene, but was apprehended shortly afterward thanks to a tip from an eyewitness. He is now facing felony hit-and-run as well as DUI charges. The moped rider suffered injuries, but they do not appear to be life-threatening.

California Highway Patrol officials say the fatal pedestrian accident happened at Grand Avenue and Blackwell Boulevard near Lake Elsinore the night of September 16, 2011. Cameron was struck by a Ford F-250 pickup truck, whose driver fled the scene of the crash. He died at an area hospital. Officials are looking for the hit-and-run driver. The suspect vehicle is believed to have damage to its right front fender. An investigation is ongoing.
