A wheelchair-bound man who was fatally injured in a hit-and-run car accident in Riverside has been identified as 24-year-old Pedro Cervantes. CBS Los Angeles reports that the deadly DUI crash happened the night of May 27, 2011 on Avenida Maravilla in Cathedral City. Officials say a vehicle driven by 26-year-old Randy Merida fatally struck Cervantes and then fled the scene. Police apprehended Merida shortly after the crash and booked him on suspicion of DUI, vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run. An investigation is ongoing.

Many people spent Friday morning day-dreaming about how they will spend their memorial day weekend, but for three unlucky vehicle owners, this weekend will be remembered for something more morbid than fun in the sun. According to the Orange County Register, at least one person was injured in a three-vehicle crash on the eastbound 22 Friday morning. The crash occurred at about 9:14 a.m. at Haster Street when the driver of a Honda coupe was clipped by a GMC sports utility vehicle pulling out of the No. 4 lane, said CHP officer J.C. Bramlett.

From the impact, the Honda swerved into the right shoulder freeway wall and then bounced back into traffic, slamming into the passenger side of a black Oldsmobile, Bramlett said. The Oldsmobile’s passenger was taken to the hospital having been knocked unconscious. The entire eastbound 22 freeway was shut down while firefighters worked to free trapped passengers.

According to a news article in The Fresno Bee, the hit-and-run car accident occurred on West Manning Avenue, near Fresno, the night of May 22, 2011. A car accident in Imperial County involving a driver who was under the influence, left four people injured, KSWT News reports. Officials say the injury collision happened on State Route 111 near Worthington Road in El Centro the morning of May 21, 2011.

California Highway Patrol officials say Isaac Beaver, 28, ran a red light at the intersection and struck a vehicle. A teenager and two children in the other vehicle were transported to a local hospital. One child sustained severe injuries. Beaver, who initially tried to flee the scene, was apprehended and charged with DUI and hit-and-run.

KTLA News reports that the fatal hit-and-run car accident occurred in the 11100 block of Woodruff Avenue in Downey. Police say Kunkle was struck by a white SUV, which sped away without stopping.
