A 47-year-old woman who was killed in a pedestrian accident the morning of May 27, 2010, has been identified as Florinda Garcia Flores. KEY News reports that Flores was walking across Coast Village Road in Santa Barbara County when a teen driver in a minivan lost control of his vehicle, went over a curb and struck Flores. She was thrown several feet from the point of impact onto the intersection of Butterfly Lane and Coast Village. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The 17-year-old driver told officials that there was some mechanical problem with his minivan that caused him to lose control. Officials also found marijuana and other drug paraphernalia in his vehicle. However, they determined that the teen was not under the influence at the time. Read More

A motorcycle accident in South Los Angeles resulted in injuries for a Los Angeles Sheriff's deputy, the Daily Breeze reports. The deputy was apparently on his way to investigate another non-injury collision when a driver making a left turn drove directly into the path of the motorcycle. Read More
San Bernardino Injury Collision May Involve Drunk Driver
A possible DUI collision may have resulted in injuries to four people identified by officials as Maria Arzate, 39; Shannon Troy, 20; Jose Vaca, 48; and Rebecca Long, 26. The San Bernardino Sun reports that the accident occurred on Highway 395 near Bear Valley Road in Victorville the morning of May 23, 2010. Car accident in Visalia Involves Suspected Drunk Driver
Officials arrested a man on suspicion of driving under the influence after a car accident that seriously injured 52-year-old Melonee Watson. The Visalia Times-Delta reports that the accident happened on May 22, 2010 on Road 132 near Avenue 320. Both Watson and the other driver were driving Chevy Silverado pickup trucks. California Highway Patrol officials said Watson was traveling north on Ben Maddox Way when the other vehicle drifted into her lane and crashed head-on into her truck. Read More
Motorcyclist Injured in Los Angeles Hit-and-Run Collision
A hit-and-run crash in Los Angeles left a motorcyclist with major injuries the night of May 22, 2010. The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reports that the collision occurred at the intersection of Hacienda and Valley boulevards in the City of Industry when a driver later identified as 39-year-old Mario Dominguez, made a left turn in front of the motorcyclist. Dominguez then fled the scene of the crash, but was arrested shortly thereafter. He has also been charged with felony hit-and-run. A man who was killed in a bicycle accident in Oakland on May 19, 2010, has been identified by officials as 35-year-old Erik Fitzpatrick. According to a KCBS news report, Fitzpatrick had just gotten out of an AC Transit bus and started riding his bicycle, when a woman who suddenly opened her car door knocked him off his bike. Fitzpatrick was then thrown onto the roadway where he was hit by the same bus he had exited moments ago. The accident occurred on MacArthur Boulevard near Patterson Avenue. Fitzpatrick was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. Charges are pending against the woman as an investigation if ongoing. Read More
A car accident in Ventura involving a water truck and a car killed 22-year-old Alejandro Gonzalez and seriously injured his 55-year-old father, Bernardo Gonzalez Alfaro. The Ventura County Star reports that 43-year-old Arturo Cervantes was driving a water truck north on Pleasant Valley Road between Camarillo and Oxnard the morning of May 18, 2010 when he lost control after failing to notice traffic slowing ahead. The truck went over the double yellow lines of the roadway, into oncoming traffic lanes, and struck Gonzalez's car. A school bus accident involving a group of fifth grade students from Yuma, Arizona, caused injuries to at least 11 children, The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. California Highway Patrol officials say the crash occurred the morning of May 18, 2010 in the parking lot of the Golden Acorn Casino in the Campo Reservation. The bus driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed the bus into a light pole. Ten students were taken to local hospitals with minor to moderate injuries. An investigation is ongoing. Read More
One woman was injured in a Los Angeles car accident after the car in which she was a passenger crashed in Glendora the morning of May 16, 2010. Authorities believe that the driver of the car, 23-year-old Justin Branch was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the injury crash, which occurred at the intersection of Juanita Avenue and Bruning Avenue. The woman who is in her 20s suffered serious injuries, but she is expected to survive. Branch has been arrested on suspicion of DUI and driving on a suspended license. Read More
