A 59-year-old man was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after a car hit him early morning March 29, 2010, in downtown Los Angeles. According to an article in the Los Angeles Daily News, the man was walking across Alameda Street, near East 8th Street, when he was struck. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. A 90-year-old female driver sustained fatal injuries in a Ventura car accident after her vehicle was involved in a street intersection accident the afternoon of March 28, 2010. The Ventura County Star reports that the injury collision occurred at the intersection of Darling Road and Jazmin Avenue in east Ventura. One person was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after the car he or she was driving hit the rear of a semi-truck, which was stalled in freeway lanes. KTLA reports that the fatal big-rig versus car collision occurred the morning of March 26, 2010 in the southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway near Buena Vista Street, in Burbank. The front half of the sedan went under the truck and was crushed. The driver of the sedan sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. According to a report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the fatal SUV rollover crash occurred on the 5 Freeway, close to the 605 Freeway. The Nissan Xterra SUV drifted off to the shoulder, hit some trees and then overturned. A 19-year-old passenger was ejected. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Read More

A 26-year old man sustained injuries in a Los Angeles car accident after his motorcycle struck a pickup truck on a local freeway. The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reports that the injury collision occurred the afternoon of March 22, 2010 in the northbound lanes of the 605 Freeway. The motorcyclist was in the fast lane, right behind the pickup, when traffic slowed and the rider rear-ended the truck. He was thrown off his motorcycle and landed on the freeway. A 39-year-old woman who was fatally injured in an Oceanside car accident has been identified as Maria Elena Gomez-Bucio. The North County Times reports that Bucio was crossing Oceanside Boulevard in an unmarked crosswalk the afternoon of March 18, 2010 when she was hit by a vehicle. Bucio was taken to a local hospital where she died. Police are looking into what caused this fatal pedestrian collision. Read More

A railroad worker was killed in a Metrolink train accident after his work truck, which was parked on freight tracks, was struck by a commuter train in the San Gabriel Valley. The Associated Press reports that the deceased person was a Union Pacific Railroad worker who was working with a crew the morning of March 20, 2010. Also injured in the crash were three Metrolink passengers. Thankfully, officials say those passenger did not sustain life-threatening injuries. There were 142 people on the train. The two people who were fatally injured in a Simi Valley car accident the evening of March 17, 2010, have been identified as 24-year-old Jessica Zarate and 22-year-old Oliver Stokes. The Ventura County Star reports that Zarate was driving a sedan, with Stokes as a passenger, northbound on Sinaloa Road. That's when a 17-year-old female driver of an SUV, approaching Sinaloa, failed to stop for the red light and struck Zarate's car. The force of the collision caused fatal injuries to Zarate, who died on the spot and Stokes, who died shortly afterward at a hospital. Authorities are also trying to determine whether the teen driver was talking on her cell phone or texting at the time.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims here. I offer my heartfelt sympathies to those who knew and loved Zarate and Stokes for their sudden and untimely loss. Two people sustained injuries in a San Bernardino car accident after two cars collided at a Joshua Tree intersection. The Hi Desert Star reports that the vehicles were involved in a broadside collision at the intersection of Hill View Road and Twentynine Palms Highway, the morning of March 16, 2010. California Highway Patrol officials said that Brianna Batross, who was driving an Audi sedan failed to yield right-of-way to a Pontiac minivan going east on the highway, which was driven by Michelle Lamore. Both Lamore and her passenger were taken to a nearby hospital. However, their injuries were not life-threatening.

Broadside crashes can be devastating. Considering the manner in which this crash occurred, it is indeed fortunate that no one sustained catastrophic injuries here. I wish Lamore and the other injured victim the very best for a quick and full recovery. Read More
