Woman Killed in San Diego Car Accident
A woman who was killed in a San Diego car accident involving a wrong-way driver in Lakeside has been identified as 36-year-old Bridgette T. Hale. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the January 26, 2010 fatal car accident occurred when Hale's Chevy Astro van crashed into an Oldsmobile 98 that was traveling north in the southbound lane of Highway 67. The driver of the Oldsmobile, 51-year-old John Hallaway, apparently went over the double yellow lines and almost struck other drivers before plowing into Hale's car.
I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Bridgette Hale for their heartbreaking loss. It is a relief to hear that no other motorists were injured or killed. Hallaway was apparently going the wrong way for about a quarter of a mile. This grieving family will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers.
Car Accident Statistics
There were 93 fatalities and 2,460 injuries involving car accidents in the unincorporated areas of San Diego County in 2007, according to California Highway Patrol's traffic accident statistics. Countywide, car accidents killed 268 people and injured 14,641 in 2007.
Car Accident Causes and Liability Issues
Hallaway told authorities he did not remember what happened and that he may have fallen asleep at the wheel. California Highway Patrol officials say that there is no evidence to show that Hallaway was speeding or under the influence of alcohol or drugs. An investigation is underway.
If I were a member of Hale's family, I would certainly want to know why Hallway was going the wrong way. If it is determined after the investigation, that Hallaway was negligent and responsible for the accident, he should be held accountable. If he was driving under the influence, he should be held criminally and civilly liable for the accident and Hale's death.
In such cases, victims' families would be well-advised to contact an experienced San Diego personal injury lawyer, who will keep abreast of the investigation and ensure that their rights are protected. More importantly, a skilled and knowledgeable car accident lawyer will ensure that the negligent parties are held accountable for their actions.
