Two people have been injured in a Los Angeles car accident after their vehicles collided head-on the morning of January 13, 2010. According to a news report in Daily Breeze, this injury accident happened near the intersection of Torrance Boulevard and Cabrillo Avenue. A pickup truck, which was eastbound on Torrance, crossed over the center line and crashed into a flatbed truck. The driver of the pickup truck sustained serious injuries. The other driver was also hospitalized with injuries. Torrance police officials are investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a part.

I'm relieved that this accident did not result in any catastrophic or fatal injuries. Head-on crashes are typically high-impact and can result in major injuries or death. I hope and pray that these men recover quickly and completely from their injuries. They will be in my prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

There were four fatalities and 499 injuries involving car accidents in Torrance, according to California Highway Patrol's 2007 traffic accident statistics. Countywide, 712 fatalities and 56,475 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents in 2007.

DUI Laws and Liability Issues

If this investigation finds that the driver who crossed over into opposing traffic lanes had been impaired, he could be held criminally and civilly liable for the accident and the injuries. Driving under the influence is a serious crime in California. It is against the law to drive with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 percent or higher. California Vehicle Code Section 23152 (a) states: "It is unlawful for any person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug, or under the combined influence of any alcoholic beverage and drug, to drive a vehicle."

Victims who have sustained injuries as the result of a drunk or negligent driver would be well-advised to retain the services of a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who has the experience and a successful track record of holding negligent drivers accountable. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer will also be able to advise victims about how their car insurance policy applies to an accident where the at-fault driver does not have car insurance or is underinsured.
