At least one person was hospitalized with injuries after an Orange County car accident, which involved four vehicles, The Orange County Register reports. The car accident occurred the afternoon of December 30, 2009 on the 57 Freeway in Anaheim, involving a Toyota Tacoma, Ford F-150, a Honda Accord and a Nissan Altima. California Highway Patrol officials say the Ford F-150 pickup truck entered the 57 Freeway from Katella and went out of control, hitting the Accord. That set off a chain reaction crash. The Accord struck the Tacoma and Altima. One woman was injured and taken to an area hospital.

I'm relieved that this car accident did not result in any catastrophic injuries. I wish the injured victim the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 30 fatalities and 2,006 injuries involving car accidents in Anaheim. In Orange County as a whole, 178 people died and 14,185 were injured as a result of car accidents during the same year.

Who is At Fault?

If the details of this newspaper report are accurate, it seems to me that the driver of the Ford F-150 pickup truck may have gone too fast, given the slick road conditions caused by the afternoon rain. If the investigation determines the driver of the Ford truck to be at fault, he or she should be held liable for the injuries and damages caused as a result of the accident.

An Experienced Accident Attorney Can Help

Victims in such cases would be well-advised to retain the services of an experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer, who will better explain their legal rights and options. In any accident where there are a number of vehicles, victims and parties involved, the investigation can be extremely complex. If you are a victim in such an accident, please do not talk to any insurance adjusters, representatives or attorneys for the other parties until you have talked to your own attorney. Insurance companies will not have your best interests at heart. They are more likely to look for ways to avoid paying you. Also, remember not to sign any papers or agreements without talking to your attorney.
