A car accident in Los Angeles resulted in injuries for five people the morning of August 15, 2010. The Los Angeles Daily News reports that the injury collision involved four vehicles and occurred at the intersection of Vesper Avenue and Burbank Boulevard. Three people sustained severe injuries. Officials are looking into what caused this crash.

It is indeed fortunate that no one was killed in this car accident. I hope none of the victims sustained catastrophic injuries and pray for their speedy and full recovery.

Car Accidents

There were 667 deaths and 52,229 injuries involving car accidents in Los Angeles County, according to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). In the city of Los Angeles, 268 people died and 25,588 sustained personal injuries as a result of car accidents in 2008.

Right-of-Way Issues

It is not clear who was at fault based on this news report. It appears that the accident occurred at a street intersection, which means that one of the drivers may have failed to yield right-of-way or may have run a red light at the intersection. California Vehicle Code section 21800 (a) states: "The driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle which has entered the intersection from a different highway."

Injured victims in such cases could seek compensation from the at-fault party to cover medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related damages. An experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer will be able to analyze all facets of the incident and make sure that the negligent parties are held liable for their actions.

A skilled car accident lawyer will also be able to determine if an unsafe condition at this intersection led to the accident. If that was the case, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could also be held liable. Under California Government Code section 911.2, any personal injury claim against a governmental entity must be filed within six months of the incident. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive claim evaluation to injured victims and their families.
